Transforming Lives: A Trauma Survivor's Insights for Therapists

I understand the devastation of generational alcohol dependency because I’ve lived it. As the third generation in my family affected by alcohol, I know what it means to witness the ripple effects of addiction and trauma across generations—the feelings of being shattered, obliterated, and lost.

When I was younger, I turned my back on my family to survive. But as I grew older, I realised that true healing required confronting those wounds head-on. I sought extensive family trauma support and worked tirelessly to rebuild relationships—both within and outside my family.

Now, as I look at my kids and grandkids, I’m grateful for the hard work it took to break those cycles.

Here’s what I want you to know: I understand the frustration and complexity of working with clients affected by family trauma. These clients often carry deep wounds that can manifest as resistance, confusion, or self-sabotage. I’ve been on both sides of that experience—as someone who lived it and as a professional helping others navigate it.

To heal myself, I immersed myself in the world of trauma recovery—reading extensively (Tian Dayton’s books became my lifeline), attending countless workshops, and spending hours in therapy. That journey not only transformed me personally but also shaped my professional practice.

Today, as an experienced Psychodramatist who has led numerous healing workshops, and completed a certificate in creative therapies, I bring a unique perspective to the therapeutic process. I’ve developed tools and workbooks designed specifically to help therapists like you work more effectively with clients impacted by generational trauma. These resources explore the behaviours your clients exhibit, the choices they make, and the underlying drivers that shape their lives—insights that can be truly transformative for both you and your clients.

I’ve walked this path, and I’m here to share everything I’ve learned so you can better support your clients without having to navigate it alone. Let’s work together to create meaningful change for those who need it most.

I had the pleasure of reading these workbooks over a nice, quiet day in my quest for real, practical advice. Ms. Vicki-ann Thornton is passionate and cares a lot about the topic of family addiction. There's a lot of honest advice that gives the reader insight into the various challenges that come up ACOA recovery. Like me, you can complete the workbooks in a short amount of time, but gain the necessary information to make the necessary changes in your life. Can't wait to read more.

Read one of them a while ago and finally got a chance to give it a quick review on Amazon. More workbooks like this should be written.
